Content Editing

(50,000 words = $630 USD)

What is developmental (content) editing?

Also known as content editing, developmental editing is the first stage of the editing process. It focuses on a manuscript's non-grammar elements such as structure, plot, characterization, world-building, pacing, and descriptions to enhance your story.

Why do I need a developmental editor?

As writers, we all become attached to our work after countless hours plotting and drafting our books. This makes us blind to our manuscripts' weak points, resulting in missed opportunities to strengthen our stories. To better engage your readers and keep them turning pages, have a developmental editor help you bring out your manuscript's full potential.

What should I expect?

My goal is to help you grow as a writer by giving you detailed feedback of your manuscript to build your writing skills and strengthen any weak points in your story. I will work closely with you throughout the process, including post-revisions, to maximize your editing and publishing experience.

Beta Reading

What is beta reading?

Beta reading can come either before or after a developmental (content) edit. It's the stage in which a test reader reads your manuscript to see whether your manuscript appeals to your audience. Beta reading focuses on a manuscript's non-grammar elements such as structure, plot, characterization, world-building, and pacing to help you enhance your story.

Why do I need a beta reader?

As writers, we've spent countless hours plotting and drafting our books. This makes us blind to our manuscripts' weak points, resulting in missed opportunities to strengthen our stories. Before you go through with a full developmental edit, hire a beta reader to help you identify the weakest areas of your story. Hiring a beta reader before a developmental editor will help you save money by allowing you to fix the manuscript's more obvious weaknesses before handing it off to a developmental editor.

Beta readers also come in handy after you've hired a developmental editor. During the developmental editing stage, a lot will change in your manuscript. After the heavy revisions of developmental editing, it may be worth having a beta reader look at your manuscript to ensure your revisions are as strong as they can be.

What should I expect?

My goal is to help you grow as a writer by giving you feedback to enhance your story. My beta reading services are a few steps down from a full developmental edit. Instead of the 6+ pages of feedback you'd get in a developmental editing round, you'll receive 1-2 pages of feedback covering the main strengths and weaknesses of your story. I will work closely with you throughout the process including post-revisions so you can get the most out of your editing and publishing experience.
